The Magpies’ transfer business this summer has left a sour taste in supporters’ mouths, with just one new signing for the senior squad.

Newcastle did manage to sign Joe Willock permanently this summer but apart from him the Magpies did not have any significant arrivals at St. James’ Park.

Bruce admits that he did chase loan signings on transfer deadline day, but could not make the room in his squad needed to bring them in.

“I thought a couple of loans could improve us – but it wasn’t possible”, Bruce said in a press conference.

“We were unable to make room – I was hoping we could trade a couple.”

While admitting that he was frustrated with the state of things on deadline day, Bruce has made peace with the situation, insisting that he cannot do anything to change it.

“The club statement has made the stance of the club pretty obvious so I’ve had to accept it and move on”, Bruce added.

“I’m frustrated, but it is what it is.

“I wanted to bring in a couple of players but couldn’t for that reason.

“End of.

“What can I do about it.”

Bruce will now try to squeeze everything out of the players he currently has at his disposal as he aims to keep Newcastle clear of relegation worries.
