Flores spent seven years as Bielsa’s assistant at Lazio, Lille and Leeds and left the Whites at the end of last season to pursue his own career as a head coach.

He took charge of Argentine club Godoy Cruz last month and he has made a solid start to life as head coach in his homeland.

The 40-year-old admitted that working alongside Bielsa and the rest of his coaching staff was a wonderful experience and he learned a lot from that.

He stressed that the Leeds boss provided resources and principles he needed to improve as a coach and Flores is using them in his current role.

But he conceded that he needed to experience the life of a head coach himself in order to further develop and head a project at a club.

Flores told Argentine daily Ole: “Well, I spent a long time next to Marcelo and the coaching group that surround him, which has a lot of hierarchy.

“And that I believe he gave me many resources, tools and principles to be able to work.

“It has been a lived experience that I think I have capitalised on.

“However with only that you can’t build a project, you also have to go through the experience as a head coach.”

Bielsa recently said that he is happy when some of his coaches leave him to pursue a career of being a manager or head coach.
