The Under-23s have been without a head coach since former manager Chris Hogg left his seat vacant in the middle of August this year.

In his absence Kevin Richardson has taken up charge of the youth side, meaning both the first team and the Under-23s have been forced to make do with caretakers.

While the managerial situation at senior level has yet to be sorted out, the Magpies Under-23s are set to come under new management.

Sunderland Under-23s head coach Dickman is on the verge of becoming the new manager of the Magpies’ youth side.

The appointment is set to be announced sometime further in the week as Dickman will switch over from the Magpies’ bitter rivals the Black Cats.

Dickman has been the Under-23s head coach of the Black Cats since the middle of the 2016/17 season, having spent a long time in the Sunderland academy both as a player and as a coach prior to his appointment, but he will now make the jump to the Magpies’ academy.

Newcastle will be hoping Dickman can improve the players at Under-23 level and feed promising talents into the first team set-up.
