The 21-year-old United States international has been struggling with injuries over the last few weeks and has not been playing regularly under Xavi Hernandez.
With Dani Alves set to be available from January, he could see a further reduction in playing time in the next few weeks and that has led to speculation over his future at the club.
Bayern Munich have an interest in Dest and there is talk of the club considering signing him next month.
According to Catalan daily Sport, Chelsea have also been keeping tabs on Dest with a view to signing him in the future.
The Blues have been considering a move for the US international but nothing is imminent at the moment.
And Chelsea are only expected to try and sign him next summer and are not planning a January assault.
Barcelona are aware of Dest’s situation and the potential offers they could receive for him next month.
But for the moment they want to hold tight and wait before taking a call on his future in the summer.
