The Glasgow giants are in the market for reinforcements in January when the window opens and are looking at a number of options in the market.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is keen to add to his defensive options and it has been claimed that the club are looking at solutions in the MLS.

And according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, the club are pursuing the signature of 21-year-old defender Sands from New York City FC.

A product of the New York City FC academy, Sands is a highly-rated young defender in the United States and has made 76 senior appearances for the club.

Sands is also part of the United States national team set-ups and has seven international caps to his name.

He has been identified by Rangers’ recruitment team and the club are looking to take him to Glasgow in the future.

With Filip Helander out with a knee injury, Rangers want to bring in a centre-back and Sands has emerged as a target.

It remains to be seen whether they can agree on a deal with the MLS outfit to get their hands on the centre-back.
