The Magpies made right-back Kieran Trippier and striker Chris Wood their first two signings under the new ownership, but boss Eddie Howe is looking for further additions as he looks to lead his club out of the drop zone in the Premier League.
A new centre-back is a priority for Newcastle and they are trying hard to secure the signature of a number of players, including Sevilla’s Diego Carlos and Monaco’s Benoit Badiashile.
And according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, Newcastle have added another name to their transfer wish list in the shape of Augsburg man Uduokhai.
The Tyneside giants have already contacted the Bundesliga outfit over a move for the defender this month and are prepared to fork out as much a €25m to take him to St James’ Park.
However, Augsburg want to keep Uduokhai in their ranks for the remainder of the season.
In addition to Newcastle, Serie A giants Napoli also have the 24-year-old on their shortlist of transfer targets.
Uduokhai has missed a large chunk of this season owing to injury and illness but has started every Bundesliga game for Augsburg when he has been available for selection.
It remains to be seen whether Newcastle will manage to snare away the centre-back in the coming weeks.
