With the arrival of Aaron Ramsdale at the Emirates and further stellar performances from the goalkeeper, the German shot-stopper’s future at Arsenal has become uncertain.

Newcastle want to land Leno and are keen to take him to St James’ Park to bolster their options, but they face complications in doing a deal.

Leno is believed to be willing to leave the Gunners, with his contract at the club ending next summer, and Newcastle have told him they would be prepared to sign him then if necessary.

They could also look at a move this month, but there is competition from Spain.

The shot-stopper has been the subject of enquiries from two clubs in Spain, who are keen to secure him.

It is claimed Newcastle have spoken to Leno on two occasions and a move this month is rated as unlikely due to the club’s situation in the Premier League.

Leno has only three appearances this season in the Premier League for the Gunners as compared to the last campaign’s 35 outings.
