Bastoni is among the most highly rated centre-backs in Serie A and he has been attracting interest from the Premier League this summer.
Tottenham had the Italy international as their top target in the ongoing window and though the player is keen to stay at Inter the north London giants have not ruled out the possibility of signing him although they have turned to alternative options.
However, Spurs are not the only Premier League team that have shown interest in snapping up the centre-back as according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, their rivals Chelsea tried their luck to get a deal over the line for him.
Chelsea and Inter are in talks over a loan move to see striker Lukaku return to the San Siro this summer and the Blues asked if Bastoni could be included as part of the deal.
But the Nerazzurri rejected Chelsea’s approach for the defender and they are now negotiating over a loan fee for Lukaku.
Bastoni’s contract at Inter runs through until the summer of 2024, and as it stands, he is set to continue playing a key role at the club.
It remains to be seen if Tottenham will push for Bastoni further down in the window if they have no luck with landing any of their alternative options for him.
