Mendy is the established number 1 at Stamford Bridge, having dislodged big money signing Kepa, and Chelsea are happy with his performances.

The shot-stopper still has another three years left to run on his contract at the club, but Chelsea have held talks with Mendy’s representatives to hand him a new deal.

No agreement has been reached yet though as there is a gap between what Chelsea are prepared to offer and what Mendy’s agents want.

The Blues will be looking to find common ground soon and lock down Mendy to a fresh contract to secure his future.

Mendy, 30, joined Chelsea from French side Rennes in 2020.

He has clocked regular game time between the sticks for the Blues and helped Thomas Tuchel’s men to win the Champions League in 2021.

The goalkeeper also picked up the UEFA award for the best goalkeeper of the season in Chelsea’s successful 2020/21 campaign.
