The Saints are in big trouble in the Premier League and have so far yet to enjoy a bounce under former Luton Town manager Nathan Jones.
They are expected to be active in the January transfer window and Jones wants to reinforce his attacking options.
Eyes at St Mary’s have been drawn towards an option in France in the shape of Moffi.
The Nigeria international is on the books at French Ligue 1 side Lorient and Southampton are showing interest in him.
Moffi, 23, has grabbed ten goals in just 14 Ligue 1 games so far this season, with braces coming against Clermont, Lens and Brest.
He even netted against Paris Saint-Germain, as Lorient suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Lionel Messi and co.
It remains to be seen if Southampton will firm up their interest in the former Kortrijk striker, who has won nine caps for Nigeria at international level, but he is considered a target.
