The Newcastle boss wants to bring in a couple of players in the winter window with a midfielder and a young full-back believed to be his priorities.

Close to halfway through the January window, Newcastle are not closer to signing any players despite the manager’s interest in strengthening their squad and consolidating their hopes of playing in the Champions League next season.

And Howe admitted that nothing is imminent and no new player is expected to arrive at the club any time soon.

He stressed that there are no active bids in play for any player from Newcastle at the moment and the club are still just looking at what they could do in the winter transfer window.

The Newcastle boss said in a press conference when asked about transfer activity: “There is nothing imminent.

“We are not actively bidding for players.

It’s a watching brief at the moment.”

Newcastle are third in the league table and fans believe that a couple of new additions will further boost their chances of remaining in the top four for the rest of the season.
