The 20-year-old right winger joined Sunderland on loan in the hope of regular first-team football and has established himself as a constant starter in Mowbray’s starting line-up.
Amad has scored seven times for the Black Cats while laying on three goals so far this season, but the winger has failed to score in his last six games.
However, Mowbray has refused to criticise Amad for his dip in form and stated that he would struggle to pick a starting line-up without the Manchester United loanee in it.
Mowbray also stated that Amad is still a youngster who is getting used to the demands of regular first-team football and believes that the young winger contributes massively to the side.
“I wouldn’t criticise Amad”, Mowbray was quoted as saying by Chronicle Live.
“I’d struggle to pick a team without Amad, although he went through a really hot spell where he scored just about every game for a few weeks.
“I still think he massively contributes to our team and the way we function, even though he’s a kid who had never played regular football really – he played a handful of games for Atalanta, a handful at Man United, went to Rangers on loan and didn’t play much, and then came here.
“It’s the first time ever in his life that he has played men’s football week-in, week-out, and it will be very demanding on him.
“It’s not surprising that sometimes he doesn’t quite hit the pinnacle of his brilliance that he can bring, because he’s been playing just about every three days.”
Sunderland will take on Coventry City on Saturday and the Manchester United youngster will be hoping to put in an eye-catching display against Mark Robins’ side.
