The Magpies are back in the next season’s Champions League and they are showing their intent with their activity in the transfer market.

Eddie Howe has seen Sandro Tonali join them from AC Milan in a deal worth £55m this summer.

Recently relegated Leicester City’s Harvey Barnes is their latest signing, with the winger costing the Magpies £40m.

Now the Tyneside outfit are looking to strengthen their defensive options as they are looking to go deep in cup competitions and continue their progress in the Premier League.

It has been suggested that the Magpies hierarchy, who are travelling with the team on their pre-season tour, are very active in the market and they have set as a target to make their fourth summer signing before the season kicks off.

Southampton’s Tino Livramento is high on Newcastle’s list this summer, however, Saints are demanding north of £30m for the full-back.

Agreeing a fee for Livramento is proving tough and Newcastle are sure to have other options on their radar if a deal cannot be done.,

Now it remains to be seen which way the St. James’ Park outfit will turn their attention with the new season knocking on the door.
