Hammers boss David Moyes is a big admirer of McTominay and launched a bid to bring the midfielder to the capital.

West Ham put £30m on the plate for the Scottish midfielder, but Manchester United turned it down and it is claimed the Red Devils want £45m.

With the gap between the two clubs being substantial, West Ham are now looking at other midfield options.

They could go back in for Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse, despite having tried and failed to agree a fee with Saints.

With the clock ticking down on the transfer window, West Ham are under pressure to make signings.

They are though closing in on Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez after agreeing a fee for his services.

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire is also wanted by West Ham and the two clubs are not as far apart in their valuations as is the case with McTominay.
