Spurs have been working on agreeing a deal for Johnson, who is Ange Postecoglou’s top attacking target, with Nottingham Forest.
An agreement is now in place between the two clubs on a package which will be worth £45m to Forest.
With time of the essence, Johnson is now on his way to Tottenham’s training ground to be put through a medical.
Spurs will run the rule over the Wales international and if he can come through the tests without an issue he will be free to complete the switch.
Landing Johnson hands Postecoglou a crucial extra option in attack.
All eyes will be on when Postecoglou chooses to give the attacker his Spurs debut.
Nottingham Forest are expected to use some of the money brought in by selling Johnson to sign midfielder Ibrahim Sangare from PSV Eindhoven.
