Liverpool signed the Dutch international from Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window for a transfer fee in the region of €40m.

Since his arrival, Gravenberch has featured three times for Liverpool and provided an assist in his first start for the Reds in their Europa League victory against LASK Linz.

Aldridge believes the midfielder needs to regain his confidence after a poor campaign with Bayern Munich last season and thinks he is a work in progress.

The Reds legend admitted he did not realise that Gravenberch is so young as he feels he looks several years older.

“Again, he’s just one of those who needs to get his confidence back”, Aldridge wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.

“He’s a work in progress and the manager is going to work with him to get him stronger with more self belief.

“He looks like he’s got massive potential and only 20 [21,ed.] years old!

“I didn’t realise that.

“You’re looking at him, he looks about 24 or 25, the stature of him.”

Liverpool are set to take on Leicester City on Wednesday in an EFL Cup clash and it remains to be seen whether Gravenberch will get his second start of the season against the Foxes.
