Beale and his side have been taking criticism since their limp 1-0 win over Motherwell at Ibrox on Sunday.

Rangers fans were unhappy with the performance and more discontent was directed towards the manager whose stock has been at an all-time low among the supporters

The level of performance by the Rangers team this season has come under scrutiny but Banfield indicated that some of the criticism has been unfair.

He insisted that Rangers have produced some big performances this season as well and have shown that the team are moving forward under Beale.

The Rangers assistant conceded that they need to be more consistent and sustain those performance levels.

He said in a press conference: “Don’t you think Real Betis was a big performance? We played PSV, was that not a big performance? So, that’s two.

“We have got them in there, it’s sustaining them all the time that’s difficult.

“I think we have shown at times that we are going places and we are moving forward without a doubt.”

Beale will look to win the Scottish League Cup and clock up regular wins in the Scottish Premiership over the coming weeks and months.
