Muscat is interested in filling the managerial vacancy left by Michael Beale after he was sacked by Rangers last weekend.
He served under the current Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou in Australia and Japan and has been successful as a manager as well in those two countries, winning league titles.
The former defender was known for his aggressive and tough style when he was a player but Wilson stressed that it would be wrong to draw comparisons between what he was in his playing days and his style of football as a coach.
He pointed out that Muscat’s teams play a completely different brand of football, which he feels is implementable at Rangers if he gets the job.
Wilson said on Clyde 1’s Superscoreboard: “He follows the Ange Postecoglou pathway and that’s well known.
“He has won things; he has got a style of play that doesn’t match the style of play he carried when he was a player.
“That’s where people get confused.
“People think of this aggressive hard defender and that’s what you are going to get but as a coach, he has a totally different way of playing.
“And I think it might be achievable.”
Muscat is being touted for the job due to his history with Rangers and his record of winning leagues through good football.
