Rangers are in the process of identifying their new manager and are looking to have their man in place during the international break.
Michael Beale was sacked last weekend and Rangers have already conducted interviews with several candidates this week.
They have already spoken to Lampard, Pascal Jansen, Kevin Muscat, Philippe Clement and Kjetil Knutsen as part of the process.
It has been claimed that the former Chelsea and Everton boss’ name has made it to the final shortlist of targets at Ibrox.
Lampard impressed the Rangers officials during the initial interview and he is now a serious candidate to become their manager.
The Glasgow giants are expected to further detailed talks with the names who are on their shortlist.
The former England midfielder is keen to return to management after frustrating spells at Chelsea and Everton.
Muscat’s history with Rangers and record of winning trophies in Japan and Australia also makes him one of the favourites for a return to Ibrox.
