The 17-year-old has progressed through Scotland’s youth ranks and currently plays for both their Under-17 and Under-21 teams.

Though he is yet to make his senior debut for Clarke’s team, McManus believes that now is the right time to do that given the position Scotland find themselves in.

The 42-year-old further insists that the Liverpool star would add his electric pace to the team that otherwise consists of players with similar features.

Scotland are due to take on Georgia and Norway in November’s international break and McManus this that is the time to take a close look at the Liverpool starlet.

“He [Clarke] needs to play him in the last couple of games, you need to have a look at him before the Euros, you cannot just throw him in a tournament.

“You’ve got to have a look at him”, McManus said on PLZ Soccer.

“In my opinion, we are going to finish second but throw him in.

“Norway at home and Georgia away.

“There you go, bring him on for 20 minutes or whatever, or start him, I don’t know.

“He is that one player that could be a wee bit of magic for us, he could be something different.

“Look at all the players, they are quite similar I think. [Lawrence] Shankland, [Kevin] Nisbet, [Lyndon] Dykes, [Che] Adams – they are all good age. 27, 28 – peak of their career.

“But they are all kind of similar.

“We have got to get someone with that electric pace that can go by somebody.

“And Ben Doak could be the player that gives you a little bit of stardust at the Euros, you’ve got to look at him first.”

Doak already has a big fan in the shape of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and is expected to be handed more senior minutes by the German as the season continues.
