Dessers has struggled to justify his billing since joining Rangers on a four-year contract in the summer.
The Nigerian has scored just twice in the Scottish Premiership this season and was replaced at half-time in Rangers’ 2-1 win over Hearts at the weekend.
The forward spoke about his struggles at Rangers last week and Ferguson admitted that he came across as someone with a good positive attitude behind the scenes despite his problems.
The Rangers legend conceded that he is desperate to see him do well because of the way he works his socks off when he is on the pitch and feels sometimes, he spends too much energy off the ball.
Ferguson said on the Go Radio Football Show: “I am desperate for him to do well.
“I think he has come across brilliantly in his interview last week and one thing about him that you can’t deny is that he does work hard off the ball.
“Sometimes, this might sound daft, working too hard.”
Dessers has been getting opportunities under new manager Philippe Clement but has yet to make an impact.
