Rangers took a big step towards ensuring their presence in the knockout rounds of the Europa League with a 2-1 win over Sparta Prague on Thursday night.

Clement has now won five of his opening six games as Rangers boss, which has already included a victory over Hearts in the Scottish League Cup semi-finals.

Rangers fans were despondent about the team even a few weeks back when Michael Beale was struggling to inspire Rangers but the mood around the club has changed completely.

Thomspon pointed out that no one had left the stadium when the Sparta Prague game was in injury time on Thursday night.

The former Rangers star stressed that the fans are again connecting with the team as the players are putting in a shift and working hard again.

Thompson said on BBC Radio Scotland: “When the game was going into injury time and you looked around the stadium, and often you see people leaving early, but it was virtually full.

“The fans stayed right until the end and you could see the players go around the pitch clapping the supporters who stayed.

“Another home win in the Europa League; their record here at Ibrox is absolutely brilliant.

“And the connection is back and there are no two ways about it.

“The best way to get that connection is to show that you are willing to work hard.”

A win over Aris Limassol in their next home game in the Europa League would ensure Rangers a place in the knockout rounds.
