Rangers are expected to try and bring in a striker in the January transfer window to solve their problems up front.

Philippe Clement wants to add to his squad this winter and a new striker is believed to be one of his key priorities given the misfiring forwards he has in the team at the moment.

Morelos left Rangers last summer on a free transfer and joined Brazilian outfit Santos, who got relegated from the Brazilian top tier for the first time in their history this week.

There are suggestions that the Colombian is up for sale in January but Wilson stressed that it would be a mistake if Rangers look to bring him back to Ibrox.

He insisted that Rangers must stop living in the past and does not believe Clement will be thinking about getting the former Gers star back as well.

Asked if Rangers should re-sign Morelos, Wilson said on Clyde 1’s Superscoreboard: “No, of course they don’t [want to].

“Rangers fans are still living in the past with this guy.

“He had long enough without actually contributing when he was at the club, never mind bringing him back after a period where his team got relegated.

“I get the struggles up front, it’s not perfect for Rangers so they definitely need someone and Clement will know that.

“I don’t believe for one minute that Philippe Clement is sitting and thinking, I know who we will get, I will get Morelos, he is the man to solve the problems.

“They have got to move forward and Morelos is in their past.”

Morelos has featured just three times for Santos and is currently out injured with a muscle problem.
