Phillips has made just four substitute appearances in the Premier League this season and is firmly on the fringes of the Manchester City first-team squad.

Pep Guardiola has made it clear that the midfielder is not part of his plans and Manchester City are looking to loan him out in the winter transfer window.

Juventus are reportedly set to hold talks with Manchester City in the coming days to discuss a loan deal with an option to buy.

But according to Italian outlet TuttoJuve, Phillips is keen to stay on in England if he is to leave Manchester City.

The midfielder would prefer to continue playing in the Premier League over a move to continental Europe.

He wants guarantees over regular playing time as he does not want to lose his place in the England squad ahead of next summer’s European Championship.

That news is a boost for Newcastle, who are hopeful of being able to loan him, while it will also encourage Tottenham, who are keen.

Whether Manchester City would prefer a domestic solution for Phillips remains to be seen.
