Sean Dyche has insisted that there is very little reality to rumours of players leaving Everton in the winter transfer window given the squad they have at the moment.
Everton have had financial troubles over the last couple of years, which limited their spending power and they have had to sell players to finance some of their moves.
The club are hopeful that the landscape will change once their new owners are given regulatory approval to take control of the club in the near future.
There are suggestions that Everton could be forced to sell again in January to meet the financial barometers of the Premier League, a failure of which has already resulted in a ten-point penalty this season.
Dyche admitted that the squad needed to be trimmed down for both financial and sporting reasons last summer.
However, he insisted that given the small squad they have at the moment, Everton are unlikely to be selling players in January.
The Everton boss said in a press conference: “I knew when I arrived here that the squad was overloaded in certain areas, it needed to be skinned down for both practical and financial reasons.
“We believe in the squad and the players we’ve got.
“With such a slim squad, you don’t want to be losing players, but I don’t think there’s much reality [in talk of players going].”
Everton will try and do some limited business in January; strengthening their midfield is believed to be a priority.
