Aston Villa are only likely to try and sign Sevilla left-back Marcos Acuna in the summer transfer window, according to The Athletic.

The 32-year-old left-back was on Aston Villa’s radar in the summer, but they decided against trying to sign him.

He has again been linked with a move to Villa Park in the ongoing transfer window and the club are interested.

Unai Emery is well aware of the player’s quality, having managed him at Sevilla and Monchi is also sold on the player.

But it has been claimed that any move would only likely materialise in the next summer transfer window.

Lucas Digne is the first-choice left-back at Aston Villa and is one of the highest earners in the squad.

A move for Acuna is only likely if the Frenchman leaves the club, which seems unlikely until next summer.

For now, Aston Villa are likely to persist with Digne and explore a move for the Sevilla star at the end of the season.
