Tottenham Hotspur have marched ahead of Napoli in the race to sign Genoa defender Radu Dragusin and are hoping to close the deal this week.

Dragusin has been expected to leave Genoa this month due to interest from clubs in the Premier League and Serie A.

Tottenham have been in talks with Genoa over the last couple of weeks but there was no agreement between the two clubs until recently.

The impasse allowed Napoli to stay alive in the race and they are prepared to offer players as well as cash to Genoa for the defender.

But according to Italian outlet Calciomercato.com, Spurs have now edged ahead of Napoli in the race to sign the 21-year-old centre-back.

In a fresh round of talks between the two clubs, Spurs have reached closer to reaching an agreement with Genoa.

They are now in advanced negotiations with the Italian club and are hoping to have a deal in place this week.

Dragusin has been open to both Spurs and Napoli and are waiting for one of his suitors to reach an agreement with Genoa.
