Sunderland are scheduled to hold more talks in the next 24 hours in their pursuit of Barnsley midfielder Callum Styles, according to the Northern Echo.
Styles was left out of Barnsley’s 1-0 win over Oxford United amidst the speculation over his future.
Barnsley boss Neill Collins confirmed that the club are in talks to sell the midfielder in the ongoing winter transfer window.
Sunderland are the ones who are pushing to get a deal over the line and take the 23-year-old to the Stadium of Light.
It has been claimed that the two clubs are closing in on an agreement for Styles’ transfer to Wearside in the coming days.
Sunderland are slated to hold more talks with Barnsley over the next 24 hours over a potential deal that would see Styles join the Championship side on an initial loan with an obligatory purchase clause.
The 23-year-old is keen on the move and Sunderland are hoping to wrap up the agreement soon.
Birmingham City are also interested in Styles but are unlikely to have the financial latitude to compete with Sunderland.
