Bayer Leverkusen do not expect Liverpool-linked Xabi Alonso to leave in the summer and the Spaniard is already involved in planning for next season at the BayArena.

Jurgen Klopp’s announcement that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season has led to massive speculation on who could succeed him.

Several names are in the fray but Alonso is by far the bookies’ favourite to replace Klopp at Anfield in the summer.

However, the Spaniard is reportedly planning to continue at Leverkusen next season despite all the rumours.

And according to German broadcaster Sky Deutschland, the German club also do not expect to lose Alonso in the summer.

They remain optimistic about the fact that the former midfielder will still be at the BayArena next season.

One of the big reasons behind Leverkusen’s optimism is that Alonso is already very much involved in planning for next season.

Leverkusen are sitting at the top of the Bundesliga standings and are on course to upset Bayern Munich and win the league.

Liverpool are yet to approach any candidate and are working on appointing a sporting director before identifying a new manager.
