Celtic legend Chris Sutton believes that the Bhoys have no excuse for not bringing in backup for Greg Taylor in the ongoing transfer window.

The Hoops are light in the left-back department and with Taylor out injured for a few weeks, Brendan Rodgers has been left with Alexandro Bernabei as his only option.

Rodgers previously admitted that left-back is a position where they want to add but have yet to find a solution in the market.

Sutton pointed out that Rodgers was aware of the left-back issue and stated that he does not believe that there is no better left-back than Bernabei available in the market.

The former Celtic star stressed the importance of timely improving every position and thinks that Celtic have no excuse for not signing a left-back with the window set to close next week.

“Rodgers has spoken about quality and not adding to the squad for the sake of it”, Sutton wrote in his Daily Record column.

“That’s fine if you are talking about improvement.

“But he said himself last week Celtic had to be mindful of a loading issue regarding Taylor and it was about support and back-up.

“So are you telling me there isn’t a single left-back better than Bernabei out there and available within the confines of the Celtic model? Come off it.

“Taylor doesn’t cut it defensively in the Champions League and you should always be trying to upgrade every position for that but there’s no excuse for being short domestically.”

Bernabei has only featured for 71 minutes for Celtic this season and now it remains to be seen whether Celtic will beef up their left-back department before the window closes.
