West Ham’s pursuit of Al Ittihad winger Jota is facing a big obstacle in the form of a tax issue, according to the Guardian.

The 24-year-old winger joined the Saudi outfit from Celtic last summer but he has not played a league game since September.

He quickly fell out of favour at Al Ittihad and was not registered for their Saudi Pro League squad, leading to a big lack of game time.

West Ham are exploring signing the former Celtic winger on loan for the rest of the season but a deal is turning out to be complicated.

The negotiations have several moving parts but the key issue West Ham are facing is a tax issue.

It is a major stumbling block and West Ham are finding it hard to skirt around the issue in their pursuit of Jota.

It has been claimed that the problem could be impossible to solve in time to sign him before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

West Ham are keen to bring in a winger before the transfer window shuts up shop, but whether that player will be Jota remains to be seen.
