Rangers have a verbal agreement in place to sign Fluminense defender Jefte in the summer after an attempt to sign him in the winter transfer window collapsed, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Glasgow giants had attempted to take the left-back to Ibrox before the end of the transfer window on Thursday night.

Fluminense were believed to be ready to do a deal and the player wanted the move as well but APOEL remained steadfast in honouring the loan agreement.

They refused to terminate the loan deal early despite the player going AWOL to force through a move to Rangers.

However, it has been claimed that the Glasgow giants will return in the summer to try and sign him again.

Rangers have agreed a verbal pact to reactivate their interest in Jefte in the next transfer window.

The left-back is a long-term target for Rangers and they will keep an eye on him despite failing to sign the player this month.

Jefte will hope to continue to impress in the latter half of the season to keep Rangers’ interest in him alive.
