Hibernian are pushing to sign Sunderland defender Nectarios Triantis on a loan deal on transfer deadline day, according to We Are Sunderland.

The 20-year-old centre-back has made just two appearances in the Championship this season and is firmly down the pecking order of defenders at the Stadium of Light.

Hibernian have been keen to sign him all winter but injuries to defenders at Sunderland have delayed any potential move.

Michael Beale has been reluctant to sanction his departure but the arrival of Leo Hjelde has strengthened Sunderland’s defensive options.

And it has been claimed that a deal is in the works for Triantis to join Hibernian on loan today.

The two clubs are in negotiations and the deal is expected to advance in the coming hours of deadline day.

The Australian will travel to Edinburgh as soon as an agreement is in place for him to join Hibernian.

The Scottish Premiership side are confident of sorting out all the formalities before the window closes tonight.
