Rangers midfielder Jose Cifuentes snubbed a reunion with former boss Michael Beale at Sunderland to instead head for Brazil, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

Beale brought Cifuentes to Ibrox in the summer as part of his Gers rebuilding job, but the boss paid the price for poor form and was sacked.

Now back in the game at Sunderland, Beale remains an admirer of Cifuentes and his interest was pricked when he heard Rangers were ready to move him on.

The Black Cats boss personally rang Cifuentes to sell a move to Sunderland to the midfielder.

Cifuentes though snubbed his old Rangers boss and instead went to Brazil on loan at Cruzeiro.

The midfielder struggled to win over new Rangers boss Philippe Clement and the Gers were happy to move him on.

Cifuentes will be looking to make an impact in Brazil at Cruzeiro, where he will hope to receive the regular playing time that eluded him under Clement at Ibrox.

It remains to be seen if the Ecuadorian can play his way back into Clement’s plans with a good loan in Brazil.
