Former top flight star Pat Nevin has asked Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario to bulk up or feels his time in the Premier League could be short.

The 27-year-old goalkeeper, who joined the Lilywhites from Empoli in the summer, has come under the scanner for his performances between the sticks of late.

Vicario failed to hold on to Kevin De Bruyne’s corner, allowing Nathan Ake to capitalise in the 1-0 defeat against Manchester City in the FA Cup last month.

He failed to make amends and yet again his weakness from corners was exposed against Everton on Saturday.

Nevin is critical of Vicario’s performance between the sticks, warning the player that Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is not one for making excuses.

Nevin went on to issue further advice to Vicario, telling him to work to add extra muscle, without which the 60-year-old thinks that the Italian’s time in England will be cut short.

“Postecoglou is not one for making excuses”, Nevin wrote in his BBC newsletter.

“The problem for his keeper is that Ange does not want his players looking for excuses either.

“When Premier League teams spot weakness in the opposition, they have all the sympathy of a great white shark that has not fed for a fortnight.

“Vicario has to muscle up or his time here will be short.”

Vicario has been between the sticks on each of the 23 league matches Tottenham have played so far this season, managing six clean sheets.

He took over from Hugo Lloris as the club’s number 1.
