Ex-Sunderland star Danny Collins is of the view that Black Cats midfielder Dan Neil will keep drawing interest from clubs if he keeps on performing like he has so far this season.
The 22-year-old centre midfielder has been one of the standout performers at Sunderland this season and was the subject of interest from Premier League outfits Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal in the January window.
On Saturday, Neil put in an impressive performance to inspire Sunderland to secure a 3-1 victory against Plymouth Argyle despite the Black Cats trailing the game 1-0 in the first half.
Collins hailed Neil as a top player and believes that the midfielder can score goals if he is utilised higher up the field.
The ex-Black Cats star is sure that if Neil keeps on playing the way he has so far this season, he will keep attracting interest in the future.
“He has goals in him if he has to play higher up the pitch”, Collins told Sunderland’s media.
“I think he has goals in him; we have seen it this season, against Blackburn, obviously got one.
“He is a top player and I think if you ask Dan, he will want to move forward with the club, but if he keeps putting in performances like he did [Saturday] and throughout the season, then there is obviously going to be a lot of interest for him moving forward.”
The 22-year-old has featured 137 times for Sunderland so far in his career and has ten goals and 16 assists under his belt.
