RB Leipzig coach Marco Rose has responded to Timo Werner’s comments about rediscovering the fun of the game at Tottenham Hotspur.

The German striker swapped Leipzig for Tottenham in the January transfer window on an initial loan deal.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has already handed him minutes and chances to impress, with Werner now cutting a happy figure in north London.

Werner has insisted he has now got the fun back following his move to Tottenham, but Leipzig boss Rose says that the striker said similar words when he joined from Chelsea.

Rose feels that Werner should just focus on playing and performing well for Spurs, while staying humble and is clear he tried hard to get the best from the attacker.

“I think I tried very hard for Timo. The topic is overall very complex”, Rose told German daily Bild.

“My office is always open, there was always the opportunity to have conversations with me. Overall we had a good exchange.

“Every player feels this a little differently. Timo used similar words when he came to Leipzig from Chelsea.

“Timo should be happy that he is doing really well again, that he is playing a lot and is performing well. Just like we do for him.

“Otherwise, it is very important to pause, be humble and correctly assess your own situation”, Rose added.

Tottenham have an option to sign Werner on a permanent basis in the summer for €20m, but if they do not trigger it then the striker will be heading back to Leipzig.
