Tottenham Hotspur academy director Simon Davies believes that there is some high potential at the club’s youth ranks and it will be interesting to see where their journey takes them.

Spurs have a history with academy graduates, with Bayern Munich star Harry Kane serving as one of the greatest examples of their success.

Midfielder Oliver Skipp came through the youth set-up and is now regularly being handed opportunities by Ange Postecoglou.

Davies has high hopes for the club’s academy and revealed his sentiments are echoed by manager Postecoglou.

However, citing his own example and those of his former academy team-mate at Manchester United, Keith Gillespie, Davies stressed the fact that the journeys can be different for different players.

“I talk to him [Postecoglou] regularly like I say and the manager believes in it”, Davies told the Off The Shelf podcast.

“My task is to make sure that the players are good enough because, of which I do believe we have some coming through of who will be of the level, but still it’s just potential at the moment.

“I’ve seen a lot of potential in the past, and I was probably that potential that didn’t make it.

“We’ve talked about Gillespie already and that high, high potential better than me.

“He still did well and went to Newcastle United [from Manchester United] but still didn’t have the career [as others from the Class of ’92 had].

“All these journey are different but we have some high potential in the academy and we’ll see where their journey takes them.”

Tottenham also have a number of other academy graduates waiting to come in to play for the senior team.

For now though, the manager has kept faith in the players that have been signed later on.
