Everton midfielder Amadou Onana will not be Xavi Hernandez’s preferred midfield target if he stays at Barcelona.

Onana is expected to move on from Everton in the summer transfer window, with a host of clubs chasing his signature.

Manchester United, Newcastle United and Arsenal are claimed to be vying to secure his signature in the Premier League in the upcoming transfer window.

Barcelona have been keeping tabs on him as well albeit there are worries that he could beyond their financial capability in the summer.

However, according to Catalan daily Sport, Onana is not even the preferred midfield target for Barcelona coach Xavi.

The Spaniard announced in January that he will be leaving Barcelona at the end of the season.

However, there is now growing confidence inside the club that he could be convinced to stay on at the Nou Camp.

If Xavi stays put and has big money to spend on a midfielder, he would prefer signing Martin Zubimendi over getting Onana.

The Belgian’s €60m asking price is also likely to be a problem for Barcelona, who are battling financial issues.
