Sunderland are closing in on the decision to appoint their new manager for next season, according to journalist Alan Nixon.


With the Championship season over for Sunderland, the club are now hoping to finalise the appointment of a new manager to take them forward.


They had three different managers last season and the club have been keen to carry out due diligence properly ahead of their next permanent appointment.



Sunderland have been chipping away on their shortlist and have already spoken to multiple candidates.


It has been claimed the club are now close to finalising the identity of their new manager.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl and Bayern Munich Under-19s coach Rene Maric are two of the names who have been in the running.



Former Mainz coach Bo Svensson has also been part of Sunderland’s shortlist of candidates.


Sunderland finished 16th in the Championship table this year and are hoping to push for the playoffs next season under a new manager.
