Newcastle United are yet to offer a deal to Johannes Spors to become their new sporting director, according to The Athletic.

Dan Ashworth is still on a gardening leave as the dispute over him between Newcastle and Manchester United continues.

The Magpies have also been conducting their own search to bring in a replacement for Ashworth over the last few months.

Crystal Palace sporting director Dougie Freedman was their top choice but he informed them in May that he would not be leaving the Eagles.

Spors also made the final two in Newcastle’s search and he continues to remain interested in taking up the role.

However, the club are yet to move forward with offering him a deal to become the new sporting director at St. James’ Park.

They have held talks with the 777 Partners Football Group’s global sporting director about him joining Newcastle.

However, no deal has been offered and there are suggestions that Newcastle are considering alternatives.

There is also a feeling the arrival of a new sporting director would hasten Ashworth’s eventual move to Manchester United.
