Everton target Yankuba Minteh has not been threatened with being sent to the reserves at Newcastle United, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The teenager, who officially joined the Magpies only last summer, is already being targeted for departure to ease the club’s PSR concerns.

Eddie Howe’s side had initially been in discussions with Everton to sell Minteh but that deal did not materialise as discussions about Dominic Calvert-Lewin moving in the other direction collapsed.

He is now wanted in France, with Marseille and Lyon both interested in the wide-man.

Les Gones had a bid accepted by Newcastle, but Minteh rejected the switch, leading to claims the Magpies threatened him.

Reports then emerged that Newcastle were threatening to banish Minteh to the youth ranks if he refused to accept Lyon’s offer.

However, Newcastle did not take such a step and Minteh was not threatened with banishment.

Minteh remains keen to move to Everton, but the clock is ticking down towards Sunday’s PSR deadline.
