Manchester United have tabled a contract offer for Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt, with Erik ten Hag also in direct contact with his former Ajax centre-back.

The Premier League giants are pushing hard to solve one of the priorities of their summer transfer window – bringing in a centre-back.

With Everton not prepared to drop their asking price for Jarrad Branthwaite, Manchester United are said to have moved on to trying to sign De Ligt from Bayern Munich.

The German champions are prepared to listen to offers for him and concrete efforts are under way to take him to Old Trafford.

According to Dutch daily De Telegraaf, Manchester United have already offered the centre-back contractual terms.

The Red Devils have tabled a five-year contract and are in talks with De Ligt’s representatives to sort out personal terms.

Ten Hag has also had several conversations with the player who he coached at Ajax previously.

Manchester United have also been in discussions with Bayern Munich to work out a fee for De Ligt’s transfer to Old Trafford.
