Former Brann star Yaw Amankwah has dubbed a potential Aberdeen move for midfielder Sivert Heltne Nilsen a ‘gigantic shock’.

Heltne Nilsen looks to be heading for a switch to Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen, with new Dons boss Jimmy Thelin wanting to land him.

The experienced midfielder played under Thelin at Swedish side Elfsborg and the Dons manager wants his know-how at Pittodrie.

For ex-Brann man Amankwah, a move to Aberdeen for Heltne Nilsen is a huge shock and has come out of nowhere.

Amankwah felt that Brann had successfully seen off interest in the midfielder last summer.

“It is a gigantic shock”, he told Norwegian channel TV2.

“It comes a bit like a bolt from the blue.

“Most people thought this saga about Sivert Heltne Nilsen moving away from Brann was put to death last year after a lot of back and forth.

“Now we are back at exactly the same time as when it flared up last year.”

The Brann skipper has made 15 appearances in the Norwegian top flight over the course of the year, scoring twice.

His deal at the Norwegian side runs until the end of 2025 and a move to Aberdeen would likely hand him a longer and more lucrative contract.
