Birmingham City have gone in with an official offer for Hannover defender Phil Neumann as they seek to take him to St Andrew’s, but it has been knocked back.

Blues were relegated from the Championship last season, but under new boss Chris Davies they are rebuilding for the challenge in League One.

The club’s owners have made a substantial budget available and Davies is looking towards Germany to boost his defence.

His eyes are on Hannover centre-back Neumann, who is prepared to make the move and has a verbal agreement in place with Blues.

Now Birmingham are trying to get a deal in place with Hannover and, according to Sky Deutschland, they have made an official offer of €4m plus add-ons.

However, Hannover have ‘rejected immediately’, with the club not willing to cash in on Neumann.

Neumann only has a year left on his deal at the German club.

Hannover relied heavily on Neumann in the 2. Bundesliga last season as he made 32 appearances over the course of the league campaign.

All eyes will now be on whether Birmingham go back with a fresh offer for Neumann soon.
