Liverpool are not set to sell one of their defenders soon, but a club keen to snap him up are ‘eager to acquire him’ later in the transfer window.

Arne Slot’s Reds are flying to the United States to kick off their pre-season tour as they build up to the new Premier League season.

Slot wants to use the opportunity to take a good look at his squad, especially with defensive options reduced in the light of Joel Matip’s exit.

He could look at Sepp van den Berg, who has been heavily linked with a move away amid his desire to play on a regular basis.

Van den Berg is unhappy with repeated loans and wants a permanent exit if he cannot play.

PSV Eindhoven are leading the hunt for Van den Berg, but according to Dutch daily the Eindhovens Dagblad, no move is imminent.

Nevertheless, PSV remain ‘eager to acquire’ Van den Berg later on in the transfer window.

With still over a month of transfer business to be done, the Dutch giants will wait to see whether there is an opportunity to sign Van den Berg.

Liverpool value the player at around €20m, which no interested club have appeared ready to meet.
