Newcastle United are still pushing to sign AC Milan centre-back Malick Thiaw, but are trying to bring the price down this summer.

The 22-year-old German defender has been heavily linked with a move away from AC Milan in the ongoing transfer window.

Newcastle recently rekindled their interest in the centre-back and are serious about taking him to the Premier League in the coming weeks.

Work is under way in the background as Newcastle insist on getting a deal to sign Thiaw done this summer.

However, according to Italian daily Tuttosport (via MilanNews), they are trying to bring down his price tag before signing him.

AC Milan want a figure of €40m before agreeing to sell the centre-back but Newcastle are pushing to negotiate it down.

The Magpies started with a valuation of €30m and are eager to reach a compromise somewhere in between.

AC Milan are sticking to their price at the moment but Newcastle remain committed to bringing it down in the coming weeks of the window.
