Championship side Middlesbrough have held initial discussions with Bristol City over Celtic transfer target Tommy Conway, according to Sky Sports News.

Conway featured in 39 of Bristol City’s 46 Championship matches last season and added to the scoresheet ten times.

However, he has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Ashton Gate and has turned down the offer to sign a new deal.

He has since been training with the club’s Under-21 side but has not failed to attract interest from elsewhere.

Across the border, Scottish champions Celtic have held long-term interest in the player and are still keen on signing him.

Now though, Celtic have been joined by Michael Carrick’s Middlesbrough, who have held talks with Bristol City.

Bristol City boss Liam Manning has previously spoken about Conway’s desire to leave the club and has also insisted that the sooner the issue got resolved the better it would be.

It therefore remains to be seen where Conway ends up at the end of the summer transfer window.
