Andrew Shinnie has admitted that he was doubtful whether Pape Gueye could become a success at Aberdeen, but stated that the forward changed his opinion with his performance against Motherwell.

Aberdeen signed the 24-year-old forward in the summer of 2023, but he failed to impress and was loaned out to Kristiansund.

Gueye has begun the season brilliantly and at the weekend his brace against Motherwell helped the Dons snatch three points.

The forward impressed Shinnie with his performance against Motherwell and the ex-top fight star praised him for his display.

Shinnie admitted that he had doubts regarding Gueye’s ability to become a success at Aberdeen but stated that his performance convinced him that the forward could be a massive player for the Dons.

“Fantastic performance again and top scorer in the league now and that first goal, because, I will be honest, I saw a bit of him at the start of the season and the other season for Aberdeen and I wasn’t sure if he was going to hit the heights at Aberdeen”, Shinnie said on the Scottish Football Podcast.

“But that performance yesterday, the goal he scored, the pace and then getting the second, winning the game for Aberdeen, he could be a massive player.”

Gueye has scored five goals in five league games so far for Aberdeen this season and the Pittodrie faithful will be hoping that his red hot form continues in front of opposition goal in the upcoming games.
