Manchester United manager David Moyes has revealed that Robin van Persie is "getting better" from a knee injury.

Van Persie has been ruled out of the club's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Bayern Munich next week and is currently back in his native Holland undergoing treatment, but the Red Devils hope to have him back in action before the end of the season.

And Moyes is pleased with the progress Van Persie is making, even if he has stressed that the striker will not be rushed back if he is not ready.

"Robin is over in Holland having treatment. We get a daily update on how Robin is and he’s getting better", Moyes said via his club's site.

"Time is healing it as well and he’s doing a lot of rehabilitation work and recovery back there.

"He’s coming on, as far as we know. I still see it as four to six weeks from when he got the injury. That was what we were told from the doctors and there’s not been any reason why it would be any more time or less time. But we’ll monitor that.

"My hope was we’d get him back before the end of the season for sure. I think the big thing is we will be medically led. If he’s not right, we certainly wouldn’t bring him back too soon."

Van Persie is aiming to be fit and ready to represent Holland at the World Cup, while Manchester United may yet need him in the latter stages of the Champions League, if they can come through their tie with Bayern Munich which stands at 1-1 after the first leg at Old Trafford.
